Synopsis of the movie:
The priceless golden statue of the Goddess Demeter, known as the Pogány Madonna, has been stolen from the Tihany Abbey at Lake Balaton. The police launch a feverish investigation, but the thieves leave little trace behind, and they stop at nothing, even murder. Dr. Kardos, a young and ambitious police officer, seeks the help of the experienced Lieutenant Ötvös, with the nickname “Csöpi”.
Located in Balatonfüred and Tihany at Lake Balaton, this film features the classic “Laurel-Hardy” pair with two detectives: the clumsy Dr. Kardos (played by András Kern, a great contemporary Hungarian actor) and the sailing enthusiast Csöpi (played by István Bujtor, one of the best Hungarian actors), who always resolves every case for his colleague. Set around the theft of a museum relic, the priceless statue of the Pogány Madonna, this film also incorporates lots of sailing scenes on "the Hungarian sea".
In the 1980s, this film was extremely popular and it broke box office records within a week after the release with 1.3 million viewers in 28 countries.
